Where to live together,
without sacrificing a commute?

Two workplaces, two limits. We calculate both commutes — by public transport, bike, on foot or by car — and show you the Paris districts and Île-de-France towns where both work.

Choose both addresses from the suggested list.

The map will appear here: each commute’s zone, and where they overlap.

Reading the result

Two zones, only one matters.

  1. 1

Each commute draws its own zone. Everything inside it gets to work within the chosen time. Two people, two zones, often very different shapes: a train line stretches the map, cycling rounds it out.

  2. 2

Their overlap is the answer. Districts fully inside it show in solid terracotta; those only partly inside, in a paler shade.

  3. 3

No overlap? That’s not a dead end, it’s a trade-off. Five more minutes for one of you, or cycling instead of the metro, is often enough to open up several districts.

Frequently asked questions

Using real public transport schedules, the cycling network and the Île-de-France road network, via the TravelTime routing service. We use a Tuesday, arriving at 9 am: it’s the everyday commute that matters, not a Sunday evening one. For public transport, walking to the station and connections are included in the time.

The share of the district’s or town’s area from which both commutes work within the chosen times. At 100%, any address in the district works. At 40%, only part of it does: check the exact address of a home before visiting it. Hover over a row to see it on the map.

Not yet by commute time: today, a Swappart search is set by district and by town. That’s why the tool lets you copy the list of zones that work best — it pastes as is into a search.

No. While you type, the text is sent to the French national mapping agency’s (IGN) public geocoding service to suggest addresses. When you click “Find where to live”, only the coordinates of the two points, rounded to about ten metres, are sent to the routing calculation. Swappart doesn’t store the addresses or the result, and there’s no account to create.

Because that’s where Swappart searches for homes today, and the district and town boundaries shown are those of the region. Both addresses need to be located there.
